Economic Base The WTC Taipei serves a constituency of 22.3 million people. Taiwans GDP for 2002 totaled US$289.5 billion. Its trade-driven economy boasts 197,740 exporters and importers, accounting for US$130.5 billion in exports, and US$112.5 billion in imports, for 2002. One million metric tons of air freight and 529 kilo tons of waterborne freight move through the islands ports annually. Ownership & Operations WTC Taipei is owned and operated by the government of Taiwan through the CETRA organization and is certified by the WTCA in trade services. WTC Taipei features more than 1,000 showrooms and 1,000 showcases in its facility. Outstanding Service: Trade Missions WTC Taipei/CETRA is very active in the organization of trade missions to assist its companies in penetrating new markets and hosting delegations looking for suppliers and customers. Since its inception, WTC Taipei has organized 33 outbound missions with 841 companies participating, and 275 inbound missions with 437 foreign companies and 1,740 Taiwanese companies participating. WTC Taipeis contribution to the Taiwanese economy is staggering. Although no hard cumulative numbers have been compiled, recent available figures are quite compelling. The outbound and inbound trade missions in 2002 alone generated US$1.69 billion in sales, a remarkable showing of strong added value.
