Economic Base Montreal is the business center of the French-speaking Canadian province of Quebec. With a population of 3.4 million, Greater Montreals US$65 billion GDP represents roughly half that of Quebec. Montreal is also responsible for about half of Quebecs US$60 billion in annual exports; export growth has averaged 8 percent annually over the past five years. Ownership & Operations WTC Montreal is owned by the Montreal Board of Trade and is certified in trade services by the WTCA. WTC Montreal is focused on improving export trade performance in small and medium sized business by providing education, training, counseling and market research, and by facilitating contacts through trade missions. Outstanding Service: Trade Education Services WTC Montreal has conducted 84 export readiness diagnostics and created 20 export plans over the past four years. In addition, 127 training workshops have been provided to 3,167 participants. Trade missions organized by the WTC Montreal are designed to make "first contacts" for participants, so they may learn about new markets and establish contacts. Over the past four years, WTC Montreal has organized 36 outbound and six inbound trade missions with 897 participants. WTC Montreal is in the middle of a yearlong survey of companies that have used their services. However, it is apparent from the information provided relative to the training activity and trade missions that WTC Montreal is aggressively engaging its membership and providing them with the necessary services to expand their businesses internationally.
